local partnerships
Our local justice initiatives are focused in the under-resourced neighborhood of Argentine in Kansas City, Kansas. Through several partnerships we’re grateful to work alongside neighbors to help meet needs in the community as well as build healthy relationships over time. Here are the ways we serve locally:
Monthly Food Distribution
In partnership with Harvesters, we volunteer alongside Argentine neighbors and friends to help provide thousands of pounds of fresh food to families in need each month. Food Distributions are held every second Wednesday of the month from 1-4:30pm at the Franklin Center.
Summer Farmer’s Market
Local farmer Gasaya Musekura provides a farmer’s market every Sunday in our east parking lot from 8am-1pm during the months of May-October. Gasaya is a graduate of the New Roots for Refugees program and makes his home with his family in KCK.
After-School Program
The Youthfront Neighborhood After-School Program is a place for New Stanley Elementary students in KCK to explore, play, study, and learn. Volunteers can choose one day per week to serve for a semester or lead a one-time workshop. This program is offered during the school year, September through April.
Christmas Store
Each December we partner with Youthfront Neighborhood to provide a Christmas store in the Argentine neighborhood of KCK. Donated items are sold at heavily discounted prices to parents who shop with their own money and choose their own gifts. The hope is to provide gifts for children in need with the added regard of dignity for their parents. Over 50 families receive gifts each year.
